I’ve got a spot reserved and will be live blogging the HTC Special event on Tuesday May 6, 2008 at 11:30 am in London, UK. The tag line for the invitation reads, “Witness the next wave of HTC Innovation.”
It’s hard to say what HTC is unveiling. With Apple’s Worldwide Developers convention just a month away, I’d venture to guess that HTC might introduce their first Android powered Dream phone. I could be wrong, but this is actually the perfect time frame since HTC committed to a release date of mid-2008 release or at least an announcement of a device sporting Android.
The HTC Dream is speculated to include many of the iPhone features, such as the full touch screen interface and keyboard. It should measure 5-inch long and 3-inch wide. The picture below was shown on BBC video, and has been undergoing tests at Google. Right now, this device is the closest thing we have to what the Dream phone looks like.Or…
It is also possible HTC doesn’t plan to introduce anything so groundbreaking as the first Android powered Dream phone, but instead, announce its next generation of Windows Mobile devices featuring TouchFLO 2 “Manila”.
HTC currently offers a number of handsets such as the HTC Mogul, AT&T Tilt, Sprint Touch, and Verizon XV6800 for many months now, so replacements could be on the way.
London is a great location for HTC to announce new handsets simply because the company sells most of its smart phones in Europe under its own name directly to consumers. Unlike the here in the United States, most of its devices are purchased from wireless carriers, and many of them don’t bear the HTC’s brand name, like the Sprint Mogul or T-Mobile Dash.
